Standard analytics were built for a click-based world. AI search visibility requires tracking a different set of signals — many of which sit outside a typical Google Analytics dashboard.

What to track
- Referral traffic from AI assistants (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot) where it’s reported
- Manual spot-checks: ask common questions in your topic area across major AI tools and note whether you’re cited
- Branded search volume over time, as a proxy for citation-driven awareness
- Server log data showing AI crawler activity — see technical SEO
Why this matters
Without tracking these, it’s easy to assume AI search isn’t affecting a site simply because a dashboard doesn’t show it. Read the full AI SEO guide, or browse AI Search & AI SEO.
