What to track

  • Referral traffic from AI assistants (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot) where it’s reported
  • Manual spot-checks: ask common questions in your topic area across major AI tools and note whether you’re cited
  • Branded search volume over time, as a proxy for citation-driven awareness
  • Server log data showing AI crawler activity — see technical SEO

Why this matters
